Dr Francisco graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, Mexico. He obtained his MRCP (UK) in London, United Kingdom, where he did his senior medical officer postings at the Royal London Hospital and Barts Hospital. He specialised in Nephrology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where he acquired 10 years of experience as a Nephrologist. He was also a visiting consultant at the National Kidney Foundation in Singapore during 2018.

Dr Francisco is accredited as a Specialist Nephrologist (with admitting privileges) at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital (Orchard), Gleneagles Hospital, Parkway East Hospital and Farrer Park Hospital in Singapore. He has also set up his own private practice, “Francisco Kidney & Medical Centre”, offering a wide range of services including clinic visits, home care and telemedicine.

Dr Francisco’s main clinical interests are the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of several kidney disorders including glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis, and of chronic kidney disease due to diabetes, hypertension, polycystic kidney disease and other rarer conditions of the kidneys. He also subspecialised in kidney transplantation at the SGH and he is an eager advocate of kidney transplantation and live donation for the management of kidney failure. He is also proficient in the management of patients on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, as well as in the care of those patients opting for no dialysis or delaying the initiation of dialysis.

Holistic patient care is crucial in Dr Francisco’s clinical practice and he has partnered with different specialists and other corporations in Singapore, and he is providing in-office clinic services and home services in Singapore for Singaporeans and Expats, as well as International patients visiting Singapore. Dr Francisco has incorporated telemedicine to the range of services he provides (available only within Singapore). Dr. Francisco speaks English and Spanish. His dietitian, Ms Hui Xin, helps him translating into Chinese and Malay.

Dr Francisco was also trained as an Immunologist at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, under the supervision of Prof Sir Robert Lechler. He was awarded a distinction for his MSc in thymopoiesis and had straight-pass during his PhD thesis viva on “Transplantation Tolerance and Immunoregulation”. Dr Francisco was actively involved in many research projects at the SGH, where he held few institutional research grants for the study of the immune mechanisms behind kidney transplant rejection, glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis. His work led to several international publications, but more importantly, it has equipped him with a greater understanding of the disease processes underlying the kidney disorders he manages. Thus, he does not only provides holistic and empathic specialist medical care to his patients, but also provides them with evidence-based and up-to-date medical advice.

For Dr Francisco, health promotion and disease prevention are important duties in his centre and as a human being, so he runs some free and some commercial educational programmes for chronic metabolic disease and diabetes awareness and prevention, plus a doable and effective commercial life-changing programme (OLYMPIA Lifestyle) for personalised and holistic health enhancement and weight loss.
